With an EPA rating of 23 MPGe in the city, 30 highways, and 26 combined, in these days of high gas prices, the Maverick is a little more affordable for your pocketbook.
The other thing that those imported cars carry is reliability, which is something that we will need to keep monitoring in the front-wheel-drive variety.
It may not be a true truck in the traditional sense, but this Maverick is certainly an excellent value-for-money car, one that has capabilities that go above and beyond those found on the original Maverick from 1970, or early Ranger.

Granted, those were two-door trucks with full beds, but I grew to love the Ford Mavericks four-door cabin.
This small, front-wheel-drive Maverick is a perfect size:
You can reach easily across the side rails, or get a shovel to the front of the bed with ease from the rear gate.
The bed is tiny, but you can get around it, and it is much friendlier to offload than trucks in big, high aisles at the Ford dealership.
It probably helps that I am not polishing off the truck’s paint weekly, because, well, the Ford Maverick is not a sports car.
